What does it mean to be generous?

How can we help meet others’ needs? These are questions students at Mackeben Elementary will explore this month as they read, “The Water Princess.” The children’s book tells the story of a young girl who travels a great distance to carry water home. She dreams of a day when her village will have clean drinking water.

Recognizing the different situations of others and how to spread kindness is part of a lesson plan for the school this month as they conduct an annual outreach that will benefit OHU students.  A library exhibit and slideshow from recent OHU trips, illustrate some of the challenges for people living in Uganda, as well as a typical water jug used by our students.

Our thanks to Principal Anna Hoyou and Vice Principal Paula Moan, who were instrumental in partnering with teacher and OHU board member, Paula Thivierge, to promote the generosity lesson and outreach collection.
