A second lockdown

Uganda has entered a second lockdown. As virus infections rise and vaccinations are scarce, the government announced all schools, centers of worship and public transportation would be suspended until the end of July.  This is especially disappointing and devastating for our students, who had returned to school eager to learn and socialize with friends.

Fr. Matthias described a scene of chaos as parents rushed to pick up their students and bring them back to their villages before the lockdown – a move that creates potential for greater infections as people relocate.  As a scholarship-focused organization, it’s our job to meet this despair with a renewed commitment to education and hope.  We won’t know for a while the full impact of this latest setback, but we’re committed to be there with the hope of educational support to ensure our students return to their studies as soon as they’re able.
