Roscoe Village artist inspires OHU art

If you’ve driven under the viaduct into Roscoe Village, you’ve been greeted by the resident artist Heather Gentile Collins. Her pieces are frequently found in the shops and boutiques that line the village streets.  Heather and her family have sponsored two One Heart Uganda scholars for several years now.

Heather recently shared her inspiration with the St. Andrew School Student Council to create a painting to celebrate the school’s support of our program.  St. Andrew School sponsors 15-year old Denis, who attends primary 5 at St. Peter Kabanga in Central Uganda.

Partnering with OHU director and St. Andrew teacher, Kelly Shea, and Student Council Lead, Kevin Carr, Heather created the initial design for the artwork that the student council members executed.  In addition to the large painting that will be displayed in the school’s main foyer, council members created personal watercolor messages – elaborating on why they support One Heart Uganda. Last year, Heather was the mastermind behind the colorful peace pillars that line Addison Street and, one in particular, that celebrates Fr. Matthias and One Heart Uganda. We’re so grateful for her creative spirit and support.
