In 2008, the St. Joan of Arc Uganda primary school was realized through the efforts of Fr. Simon Peter Kyambadde and supporters in Evanston’s St. Joan of Arc parish. The initial enrollment of 267 students has grown to more than 600. It now includes two One Heart Uganda scholars, 6-year old Charles and 9-year old Matia.
The school, which is located in a remote and desperate area of Central Uganda, has been recognized as one of the top 20 primary schools in Uganda and has scored in the top 3% out of 12,000 schools in primary examinations.
We’re thrilled for Charles and Matia to have exposure to such a high quality education. We had the opportunity to tour the impressive school and meet the headmaster during our recent visit. We hope to continue to build synergy between our Chicago and Ugandan organizations – bringing love, learning and opportunity to our students.
