The annual St. Andrew School Penny Challenge benefitting One Heart Uganda is on! It kicked off on Friday with One Heart Uganda Day and students dressing in red to celebrate. The annual penny challenge tradition pits one grade against another in collecting dollars and coins during a weeklong contest. Dollar bills and pennies trump all silver coins resulting in a daily battle where competing classes put silver coins in each other’s containers to reverse the positive count.
Last year’s collection was so successful it funded Mauricia’s vocational trade school education, ensuring she’ll graduate this spring with a degree in fashion design and business administration. This year’s collection will ensure Mebel can start her first year in secondary school (the equivalent of high school in the U.S.) with financial security allowing her to focus on her studies.
